Jesus is here to change the world. Are we? Do we think he or we should be up to something less? That social dynamic is powered by, inspired by prayer. In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells of a widow who will not be wearied by an unjust judge. Be persistent, “pray always.” Be in communion with Real Presence, with dynamic loving energy, with creative healing power. We are watchful against being disheartened, “weary,” for we are the life-blood of transformation.
Weariness has no place amidst those inspired for communion, for love, for creative healing power. Our prayer inspires us to be encouraging and kind for all our brothers and sisters. Our inspiration is to weary those who would separate us. Our inspiration is to weary people disposed toward anger and injustice. Our prayer inspires us to weary those who would drive us to war and to be destructive and violent with our brothers and sisters. Let they who fight communion, love and creative healing power grow weary. Let them grow weary with enemy making and its incessant dehumanization. Let them grow weary with justifying themselves at the expense of being compassionate. Let them grow weary with the frustration and violence such a life breeds. It is a life weary with defense mechanisms sharpened behind walls of tribal allegiance. It is a fatiguing and ultimately disappointing life. Those who live it are left feeling hollow. Not so, we who are inspired. We live in fullness. From our prayer, we are alive with Real Presence. We exude energy. We pulsate with vitality.
“How it pounds in you, how it urges through you, how it asserts its power like a tide of electrons flashing through your veins, shocking your fingertips, exhausting the iron gates of your heart. Alive, alive, always alive, it hisses, crackling like the lightning snake that splits the sky at evening, Alive.” (Blood Pressure – Sandra Gilbert)
Prayer: Spirit, we are alive with Inspiration.
Question: How would I describe my life in the Spirit?
